CrosStitch Update: Halloween Costumes & New Contest!

Gaians, greetings! With Halloween right around the corner, I'm very pleased to bring the winners of our last CrosStitch contest to the shop! As you might remember, the contest asked creative Gaians to design the Monster Costume of their dreams. They could've been scary, cute, or anywhere in-between.

Narrowing the wonderful entries down to pick winners is never easy, and this time was no exception. There were many, many very creative entries all across the spectrum, but the winners have just hit the racks at CrosStitch:

Tiger & Bunny is the story of superheroes Kotetsu T. Kaburagi and Barnaby Brooks Jr. set in the futuristic city NC 1978. The city's superheroes wear corporate logos as their deeds are broadcast on the popular show "Hero TV", with the highest-rated hero earning the title King of Heroes. Kotetsu and Barnaby don't always see eye-to-eye on how superheroes should act, but have to work together to solve the city's crimes as well as the mystery of the murder of Barnaby's parents.

EI Report: Antipathy's finale!

Good afternoon, EI fans! Glad you're here, it's a "big'un" today! How do you like that slang? I picked it up at a truck stop. I was just getting some snacks, minding my own business, when a rude trucker told me that my head was too big for my body and that I had a "big'un dome." I didn't pay him any mind, though, because his head was extremely small, so it's no wonder why he thought my normal-sized head was huge.

Anyway, yes, it really is a big week around here-- Antipathy just reached its last stage of evolution, and there's so much to see (including an illustration at the bottom, scroll all the way down)!

    Antipathy
     - At last, the sound carries to the deepest chambers. The King, grandly dressed in silks and furs, leaps to his feet at the shrill scream, a chill crawling up his spine. He shouts for guards and dives for his sword just as the door to his room bows inward and shatters to pieces with a horrifying crack. His heart freezes in his chest, his limbs like stone.

    "My dear hunted," Wraak slips past the splintered wood as the scent of blood taints the air. The demon mockingly holds a hand to its chest. "This heart skips a beat at the sight of you."

    "You..." the King sputters, eyes wide in recognition. "You, I thought you were dead. I locked you in the tower--"

    "Twenty years ago. Yes. And as revenge, I have now killed much of your court, your men, your wife and your son." Wraak advances slowly. "And there is not one remaining to come to your aid." The King watches as the monster's face changes. He can see the prisoner-- the dead man-- peering out at him from someplace dark within his own body. "I came to this city to offer aid. Charms and potions and harmless spells. But you were afraid of my foreign magic." The dead man falters his steps, as if trying to pull his own body back, and failing. "You had only to ask, and I would have gone."

    "It was witchcraft," the King replies, his face white. "You tell me you meant no harm, but now, look what you have done."

    The dead man snarls. "I had only wanted to be a friend. Now all I can think of is my revenge. This is what you have done to me, King. This evil thing consumed me... as it has consumed this castle... and as it shall consume you."

    "No--" The King collapses, bowing his head. "God, what are you? Forgive me. Oh please forgive me!" Wraak touches the King's head, almost kindly. Behind its eyes, the prisoner is gone. Only the monster remains. Smiling.

    "I am Wraak," it whispers.

    "I do not forgive."


Ah, what a finish! I'd like to remind you to go vote in the weekly EI poll as well, because it too is a "big'un" not unlike the item itself! See you next time!

There's a new guy around the office. I don't know his name but the first thing he told me was, "You are now aware of your own breathing," before smirking and walking off. I remained at my desk for the next five hours timing and measuring each breath. The good news is that I have excellent lung capacity. The bad news is that I missed a deadline, but the even better news is that I stood on the roof during a rainstorm the next day in my frogman suit and night-vision goggles and identified the new guy's car. Next time he tries giving me any trouble, say, by making me aware of my own blinking, I'm going to make him aware of his 2004 Land Bison Frontiero being towed for not properly displaying its parking permit. Check and mate.

New REI: Wisteria!

Hey, EI fans! Usually, my favorite thing to happen on Tuesday is Free Golf Cart Rental Day down at the municipal golf course. I don't even play golf, but those things are loads of fun to drive until the batteries run out, and then scamper off into the woods without a trace. This Tuesday is even better, though-- we've got a big announcement! A new REI has been discovered and it's poised to become a favorite.

    Wisteria
     - Victoria and Tyrian are siblings and have been the best of friends as long as either of them could remember. Their incredible bond gets put to the test, however, when word is received from their parents: The pair has been invited to stay the winter at their relatives' distant, creepy, mansion!

Gaians! It's Halloween, and we're very pleased to be offering some special animated items for the occasion! Forgive us if we seem a little sleepy-- stocking animated items is always a little troublesome. Last night, the animated items on a pallet downstairs kept making horrible rhythmic thumping noises as they moved and writhed in their containers, and we had to keep coming downstairs to yell at them to stop. Let's be clear on something right off the bat: I have no regrets. Zero. Not a single one. Everything I do is completely right and justified in my view. Just three weekends ago I was at a fishing tournament where someone had caught the lake's oldest living resident-- Galactos, a 7-foot, 76-year-old trout. Sensing the great beast was suffering as it was being weighed, I knew what must be done. I tossed my car keys off into the distance to make everyone look off to the side, then I ran up and released Galactos from his hook! As the crowd of middle-aged fisherfolk pushed me around and pummeled me, I felt as if I could be done for... but I felt something! A huge, disgusting, slimy bite gently but firmly took hold around my hips. Galactos had wiggled his way back onto the shore to rescue me! With me in his enormous maw, he swam us back out to the lake, and I projected several flamboyantly vulgar hand signals back to my assailants as I was taken to safety with my black eyes, swollen lip, tattered suit and all.

Galactos and I are still pen pals to this day. In fact, in his latest letter he expressed great pleasure in summoning Bloody Mary with the help of Dark Reflection 2!

EI Report: Wisteria!

Hey there, EI fans! This week's evolution is a good one! Exploring houses is something I don't really get to do very often. It's not that I don't get invited to-- I do. It's more because I have a crippling fear of getting lost in someone else's house. I think it goes back to the time I was invited to a sleepover and I got lost in the middle of the night looking for the bathroom, and then got lost again after finding it. I ended up having to spend the entire night sleeping under a pile of clothes in a hamper because I couldn't find my way back to the party. Now that I think about it, I suppose I could bring a compass or a GPS next time. Oh yeah, hey, items!

Hello. Did you know that I am going to be the president?

Hi! Hello! Did you know that everyone has been talking about president things? This is true, I have heard it. I am becoming quite annoyed about it, just as everyone has become quite annoyed about me.

But it has given me an incredibly important idea. Maybe the MOST important idea. I will now be running for president, because as far as I know there is no president of Gaia. I will be running unopposed, but I look forward to getting your vote tomorrow.

Here is my official policy platform:

  • Health: I am for it. Everyone should do a health.
  • Taxes: We will take some money from people (not too much).
  • National Security: I can lift over forty times my own body weight.
  • Social Issues: Everyone gets to kiss whoever they want, as long as it's OK.
  • Dogs: Big ones yes, little yapper dogs... we'll see.

Hi. I too am going to be president, and not him.

Hello. Hi and hello. Hi there. It has come to my attention that Diedrich is running unopposed for president of Gaia. Diedrich is a good man, a family man, and I wish him well in all things.

Except that I also want to be president, and he can basically go to hell.

I realize that I am a newcomer in the political arena, but I look forward to earning your vote in a healthy and vigorous debate. While I look and sound almost exactly like Diedrich, that is just a coincidence. I am probably a clone of him, or something. But our policies would be very different.

In order to make an informed choice, and since we are essentially winging this whole deal by the seat of our pants, Gaia's president will be determined by a single debate.

Mr. Diedrich and I will be arguing at each other all day, and you can tune in whenever and let us know which policies you like best on each issue. Whoever's button gets dingled the most will be the president.

This system makes perfect sense to Diedrich and I, but I will admit that our brains are like walnuts and we are on the very lowest percentiles of smartness, even compared to things like jellyfish.

Tuesday at the office, and that means it's "eat a burrito in my car" day for lunch. While I was in there, I was looking at the November Advance Chances I'd picked up and the seal on them seems... a little weaker than usual. I'm not entirely sure what this means, but it can only be a good thing!

EI Report: Wisteria!

Hey there, EI fans! One of my favorite Evolving Items ever has taken a turn for the creepy this week. Its story reminds me of the crawlspace I found back at our old lab. While sitting at my desk one night, I noticed an opening in the wall. Before I knew it, I'd torn the wallpaper, broken it open, and got my head stuck in there for a good 12 hours or so until the lab techs came in the next morning. On the plus side, while I was in there I thought up a new way to organize our data AND figured out a solution to our parking problem. Oh, I'm getting distracted. Items!

    Wisteria
     - As Tyrian and Victoria playfully explore the mansion, they accidentally trip over a hanging wall drape, revealing a boarded-over opening only wide enough to fit a small child. A draft can be felt through the cracks in the walls and Tyrian's curiosity gets the best of him. Victoria watches nervously as he pries the rusted nails out of the old boards keeping whatever it is behind the entrance hidden.

So cool! It's totally jogging memories for me. Not just about the crawlspace thing, but there was the time I got my head stuck in an antique vase. And another time where I got my head stuck in a bucket. Hey, go vote in the weekly EI poll, and take care! See you next week!

Cash Shop Update: Lake Cygnus Bundle!

Good afternoon, Gaians! We're very pleased to be stocking a series of new items as well as a new bundle today! On an unrelated note, you might notice when you visit the shop that we're keeping it a little colder than normal in there. It's to keep the rowdy air hockey teens out-- the first time we turned on the furnace for the year it made the whole place smell like burning dust, having been off for the summer. Anytime the teens come around, we turn the heater on, let the smell propagate, flick the lights on and off, and shout, "Oh no, it smells as if the trash you unsavory youths have left in our rumpus room is smoldering! Run!" which gets them out pretty quickly, usually.
